There is no better feeling than arriving at a hotel or villa and it completely exceeding all possible expectations. After waking up in the early hours of the morning to catch our flight, pulling into the long drive of our villa – which was surrounded by manicured lawns and palms lazily swaying overhead – was an amazing experience… As soon as we entered through the huge front door, our jaws dropped to the floor.
The villa is built using perfect stone from the island of Paxos – which you can see in the distance from the beach in front of the villa on a good day. The interiors were simple yet expertly designed and extremely well executed. Both of the bedrooms have an expansive terrace directly outside the room as well as an oversized bathroom – which feels like a spa. This is the perfect place for some pampering at the end of a day! However, the outside is where Abigea really shines. The mint perfect pool stretches into the huge garden (which wraps around the property) and is surrounded by swathes of unpolished white marble so that your feet don’t burn in the middle of the day when you want to get to the pool. From the pool you can look into the olive groves that surround the property and smell the delicate aromas of the herbs, lemon and lime trees that are placed strategically in the garden. Luckily, Abigea had a a sweeping loggia which provided much needed shade from the burning mid day temperatures.
In the evening you could use the wood fired oven or the barbecue to cook a delicious supper. One of the nicest things to do is to go for a sunset swim on the beach in-front of the villa and then go and have a cocktail at one of the beach bars. Parga is a destination popular with Greek tourists so there is no rush if you want to eat out in the evening. Restaurants start really filling up at around 22:00 which makes you feel you have really made the most of the day.
