Over the years, I haven’t had the best relationship with denim… The problems were endless: shrinking in the first wash, the colour rubbing off on everything and generally just overheating as soon as the sun decided to make an appearance. However, recently I have discovered my kind of denim; denim pattern fabric that is light and summery. After buying the shirt below – that is made to look like denim a couple of weeks ago – it has fast become one of my favourite pieces of clothing I have purchased in a while, purely because it’s something a little different.
Every once in a while I think it’s really important to try something different and change your style up – whether that’s trying new fabrics, prints or colours. It gets you inspired and makes you see new combinations of colours that might match your complexion better. I’m even considering adding some embroidery on the back of this denim style shirt as a pop of colour and to add a new dimension; maybe something red to contrast with the blue?
I bought the shirt from H&M – a store I haven’t shopped in a very long time. I fell out of love with the store a couple of years ago due to a lot of their garments being badly cut for my body shape and after seeing some quite horrific stuff on the documentary ‘The True Cost‘. This documentary is definitely worth looking into even if you just watch the trailer. Whilst H&M still aren’t what I’d call an ethical company, they have made some good steps towards sustainable fashion such as their H&M Conscious line so I don’t mind making a purchase from them every once in a while.
